You can add 1, 2 or all 3 of the Welcome to Excellence programmes to your training portfolio and deliver on an entirely independent basis across Northern Ireland. Or, you may wish to deliver the programmes within your business, as an in-house trainer, with the flexibility to work around your business needs.
All new and refresher training sessions on Welcome Host, Welcome Host Plus and Welcome All are delivered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

Following the briefing day, you will be required to write a report evaluating your first delivery of the programme(s) after which you can receive full accreditation and be included in all Welcome to Excellence PR and marketing activities. You will also be encouraged to maintain contact with the Master Trainer throughout the probationary period of 6 months for support and advice. More details of this will be given at the briefing day.
Refresher Training Brief
Welcome to Excellence is about ensuring standards of excellence that will consistently deliver high quality customer experiences. As such, all trainers are required to attend an annual refresher session. If you deliver 6 or more courses throughout the year, you will be asked to attend a half day programme for each course. If you deliver fewer than 6 you will be required to attend a full day session. This will be used to update you on changes to the programme, share ideas, update training skills and to find out what NITB is doing in terms of tourism development.
In preparation for your refresher trainer briefing, please bring along your participant guide and any new ideas that you have tried and find to be successful in your training. There is no need to bring your trainer manual.
The session will cover the following:
- review of best practice – successes and areas for further development
- content review
- creative approach to developing new exercises/ideas
- customisation of the programme
- training styles and techniques
- supplementary materials
